№2 Homemade Almond Milk

I am not sure why we call it almond milk?? In my opinion, it is a pure liquid white gold!

This milk changed my entire world when it comes to plant-based milks. I remember when I tried to make it for the first time – back then, I didn’t have a nut milk bag, so I used what I had – a kitchen towel. Haha, it was a mess but it worked!

TIP: If you are planning to make your own homemade plant-based milks, buying a proper nut milk bag is definitely worth it (it’s just simply not that messy! Or it could be me not being super skilled, ups!) I have 2 nut milk bags from Vitalvibe and one of them has been with me for more than 2 years now♡

Homemade vs. store-bought plant-based milks…

At the beginning of my vegan journey, I used to buy regular plant-based milk at the store as most of us, but there were some things that were bothering me:

  1. Ingredients that I didn’t want to consume
  2. Waste of packaging (all that carton used for 1l of milk, no thank you)
  3. Feeling that the milk isn’t fresh
  4. Who knows how long it’s been on the shelf at the supermarket
  5. It is more expensive to buy plant-based milk at the store than to make my own at home – aaaand it takes only 2 minutes to make…

There were too many cons, so I have decided to get the nut milk bag and start making my own plant-based milks at home like:

⭐︎ №2 Homemade Almond Milk

⭐︎ №12 Cashew Vanilla Milk

Now, I am so spoiled that buying a plant-based milk at store (for home) is just a no go! However, if we are traveling or going to restaurants, I am drinking any plant-based milk available. I am grateful that it is even an option!

Haha, I think that you know what I am talking about – that exciting feeling when they say: “Yes, we have vegan options!” Can you relate?

But now, let’s make this amazing homemade almond milk aka pure liquid white gold⇣

Love, Denisa♡

High-speed blender, Bowl, Nut milk bag/cloth, Scale

Gluten-free, RAW, Vegan, No artificial sugar, Soy-free, Corn-free

  • 100g Almonds
  • 750ml Water

  • 1⁄2 Vanilla bean pod
  • 1 tbsp Honey OR 2 tbsp Coconut Nectar (Vitalvibe)

  1. Soak 100g of almonds overnight or longer.
  2. Rinse and put into your blender together with 750ml of water. If you want, add 1/2 of vanilla bean pod and honey OR
    coconut nectar.
  3. Blend for up to 1 min, depending on your blender. Pour the mixture into your nut milk bag or cloth and squeeze. Get as much out as possible.
  4. Save the pulp! No wasting allowed I will show you what else we can use the pulp for in other recipes.
  5. Store your homemade almond milk in the fridge for up to a week.

☆ ALMONDS: Make sure to buy the best quality almonds possible. Personally, I am buying RAW = not processed above 42 degrees. The storage requirements are even stricter than if I would be buying organic. Also, if you are in EU, go for Almonds from Italy or Spain. If you are in US buy as local as possible (California). I have been at a food expo in Germany, where I have been told that the almonds shipped from US to EU are X-rayed to avoid bacteria going overseas= they kill the almonds with it! I don’t know if that is true, but I am aware and I always check where the almonds I buy come from.

☆ CONSISTENCY: The less water you add, the thicker the milk will be and the other way around.

☆ SOAKING: I like to soak my almonds for 1-2 days; this ensures that the milk is nice and creamy. If you decide to soak the almonds for 1-2 days and not only overnight (12 hours), make sure to rinse and change the water 1-2 times. This is because of the phytic acid almonds are releasing.

☆ NUT MILK BAG: Get one! You can use it forever and it’s easier to use than using cloth. We will use it in other recipes as well not only when making plant-based kinds of milk. Find at Vitalvibe.

☆ ALMOND PULP: Save it. No wasting here It is great to add to your porridge. I will also show you what else we can use it for in other recipes.

When I turned 100% vegan and started with a plant-based lifestyle back in July 2014 I used to have a hand blender (we all have been there❀). It took me almost 2 years before I got my first high-speed blender.

Talking from my experience: Investing in a good high-speed blender is a great decision. I am using it every single day! I even took it on our vacation to Bali!
